Every year, National Prevention Week reminds us of the power of prevention, recovery, and community. Organized by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), this nationwide event encourages individuals and organizations to share stories that promote mental health, prevent substance misuse, and celebrate recovery journeys.
At Riverside Recovery, we believe every story of healing has the power to inspire someone else. That’s why this week, we’re highlighting voices from our own recovery community.
#MyPreventionStory

My favorite thing about being in recovery is the community. They say in the AA Big Book “To watch people recover, to see them help others, to watch loneliness vanish, to see a fellowship grow up about you, to have a host of friends- this is an experience you must not miss.” I feel like this truly describes life in recovery. The price of admission (pain) is well worth the beautiful life on the other side.

Recovery gave me more than sobriety. It gave me connection. I’ve been able to heal old relationships and build new ones with people who truly understand. The recovery community has brought some of my closest friends into my life.

My favorite thing about recovery is that it’s about so much more than just sobriety — it’s about reclaiming a life that feels full, meaningful, and worth living. It’s the opportunity to form deep, authentic connections and to heal the relationships that were once broken by addiction. Recovery is a journey of healing, growth, and renewal — a powerful reminder that everyone deserves a chance to turn their pain into something beautiful.
